About Dr. Gjumrakch Aliev, M.D., Ph.D.
Gjumrakch Aliev, M.D, Ph.D., the internationally recognized founder of Gally International, has more than a decade of research in the area of gerontology. Dr. Aliev's extensive research is respected throughout the world and held in the highest regard. Dr. Aliev is one of the few scientists internationally recognized for his expertise in vascular and mitochondria factors in the pathogenesis of gerontology research fields especially in the atherosclerosis, ischemia/reperfusion, stroke, AD and on the models representing these conditions.
In 1982 Gjumrakch Aliev graduated summa cum laude from the Azerbaijan Medical Institute in Baku, Azerbaijan receiving a M.D. degree in the fields of general medicine and health sciences. In 1989, he received his PhD (Summa Cum Laude) in the field of Cardiovascular Biology and Pathology, from the Ivanovo Medical Institute, Department of Electron Microscopy and Cell Pathology of the Institute of Human Morphology, Moscow State University, and Russian Cardiology Research Center, Moscow, Russia.
He received postdoctoral training under the prestigious British Hearth Foundation Grant Program in the University College London (advisor Professor Geoffrey Burnstock, FRS) in the specialty neurosciences cardiology and medicine. Professor Aliev have developed research and educational programs in neuroscience, neurodegeneration, mitochondrial, cardiovascular, cerebrovascular, pathology, anatomy, histology, cancer, electron microscopy and other areas. Additionally, he has extensive experience managing dynamic academic research and teaching environments.
Dr. Aliev has developed unique technologies and treatment protocols for aged associated diseases. In addition, Dr. Aliev was the first to propose the consideration of energy crisis as a main driving force for the acceleration of the aging. He authored more than 180 peer-reviewed published journal articles and book chapters and more than 170 scientific abstracts of conference presentations in the fields of neurodegenerative diseases research (Alzheimer disease), as well as cardio- and cerebrovascular disease, cancer, and electron microscopy. He also has several patents and rationalizations. His CV and accomplishments can be a unique example for any scientist in the filed of neurodegeneration as well as cardio- and cerebrovascular diseases research fields. Presently, Dr. Aliev is the Project Director and lead investigator of an international scientific project concerning the study of the role of cellular hypoperfusion induced oxidative stress and mitochondrial failure in the pathogenesis of cerebral athero- and arteriosclerosis and AD, which shows promise in offering not only a deeper understanding of underlying mechanisms of AD, Parkinson's disease, strokes and other brain diseases, but also new and more effective treatment for those devastating diseases.
Dr. Aliev has extensive expertise in all of the various aspects of microscopic analysis such as experimental design, data analysis, and manuscript/grant writing for both biological and non-biological studies. With many years of experience in LM, EM, 2-photon microscopy, Atomic Force and Confocal Microscopy he has produced pioneering work in different areas of EM, including new methods of EM techniques. These techniques include cytological in situ hybridization at the light and electron microscopic levels using non-isotopic colloidal gold probes, peroxidase-anti-peroxidase (PAP), and pre- and post- embedding single double and triple immunogold cytochemistry and quantification. The excellence of Dr. Aliev's professional service deserves special attention. He serves as an editor or an editorial board member for many prestigious journals. He has served and is currently serving as a grant review board member and reviewer for international granting agencies and foundations. In addition, Dr. Aliev possesses prodigious administrative skills, including logical decision-making, high efficiency, and his excellent rapport with colleagues, friends, employers and subordinates. Dr. Aliev is an outstanding scientist and administrator with a unique and distinguished ability in cell and molecular biology, neurodegeneration and ultrastructural pathology as well as neurology and cardiology.
